What is GeoLogXL and its purpose?

What is GeoLogXL?

❖  GeoLogXL provides advanced geological mapping abilities.

❖  It is completely customizable and allows storing your geological data in almost any database or data format.

❖  GeologXL allows offline operation. Before leaving for the field, download the data you wish to work with. This includes your own custom metadata. Then while out you can modify, delete and add new geological data. When you return to the office just click on the synchronize button and your data is uploaded and synchronized with the server database.

Purpose of GeoLogXL

1. To record geological mapping data.

2. To provide graphical confirmation of the accuracy of data input.

3. To speed up delivery of new geological information in true 3D to client disciplines such as Mining, Mine Planning, Rock Mechanics and Evaluation.

4. To eliminate the need for paper based representation of geology and file transfers of data.

5. To ensure that all geological observations, including detailed rock descriptions, are recorded electronically, to enable rapid textual and spatial analysis.

6. To provide sound metadata, such as consistent codes and the automatic recording of who mapped what and when.

7. To ensure the clear distinction, in the geological modelling environment, between real data (mappings) and interpretations, i.e. what may be modified and what may not.

8. To provide the means to record geological surfaces directly as orientated planes, thereby eliminating the need to derive these from strike and dip measurements.

9. To enable downloads of peg data directly from other systems and the import of DGN files for reference purposes.

10. To enable the recording of geological mapping to the appropriate level of accuracy, ranging from highly accurate 3D elements, based on detailed offset measurements from real tapes, to virtual tapes and offset estimates, to approximate 2D elements created using the drawing tools and saved as DGN files.
